Frei Bernardo de Vasconcelos (1902-1932) had a short life. He died a few days before he could complete 30 years. He was born in a noble house a few meters from this statue, just next to the local church.
Beyond his religious life he was also active as a poet, with a strong catholic influence in his writing.
He studied in Belgium but had to return to Portugal due to health issues. He never recovered.
