The La Grange Mine operate from 1851 to 1918 and was the largest hydraulic mine in California. A 100 million cubic yards of material was washed from the slopes of Oregon Mountain to obtain $3,500,000 worth of gold.
This site includes Calif History Marker #778, a hydraulic monitor, a Scenic Byway sign and four signs placed by CalTrans.
The Trinity Scenic Byway follows Calif. Hwy. 299 from Arcata to Redding for a total distance of 140 miles.
