The Rev. Harry May is buried in Huntsville's beautiful and historic Oakwood Cemetery. His WoW tombstone is one of the most ornate and beautiful that we have seen, with a unique WoW medallion, an expression of his family's love for him, and a cautionary word for the certain futures of those who stop by:

Front of tombstone:

Rev. Harry May
born in Princeton KY Oct 3, 1845
died in Huntsville TX July 20, 1895

Remember this as you pass by
That now as you, so once was I
As I am now, you soon will be
Prepare for death and follow me

On the reverse:

Goodbye Papa but not forever
We'll join you in that heavenly land
No more to take the parting hand
Here lies one who is sleeping in my love
With hope that is treasured in heaven above
It was hard, so hard, to part with thee,
But Christ's strong arm supported me.

The only article we could find about Rev. May is this story from the Dallas Morning News in 1890:

The Dallas Morning News (of Dallas, Texas) - June 9, 1890 - Page: 2

Summer Festivities
Fairfield
W. B. Moses of Centerville, editor of Centerville Democrat and a prominent young attorney of the Leon county bar, was married to Miss Ina Anderson of Fairfield, on the evening of the 28th ultimo, Rev. Harry May officiating. The church was beautifully decorated and crowded to overflowing. After the ceremony a few chosen friends, including the members of the Fairfield bar, were given a reception at the residence of the bride's father, A. G. Anderson. The happy couple left next day for Centerville and Galveston." [end]

We were not able to find an obituary.

Rev. May may have been a circuit preacher. We know nothing about him, not even his denomination, except that with children he was most likely not a Roman Catholic priest!
Was the inscription legible?: Yes
