In the neighborhood of Chestnut Hill, which includes parts of Boston, Newton, and Brookline, is the Thomas P. 'Tip' O'Neill Library for Boston College.
The library is located on the main campus, roughly in the center of the campus, near Gasson Hall - the building with the large bell tower. There is a parking garage on Campanella Way where you can park. Limited on street parking elsewhere may also be available.
The O'Neill library was opened in 1984. It holds over 2.2 million volumes of the univiersity's research collegctions. These are housed in the five floors of the library or in one of three remote sites. The library also has nine rooms intended as group study areas. Some are on a first come, first served, basis, while others require a reservation.
The library, and the plaza in front of it, are named after BC alumnus, Thomas P. 'Tip' O'Neill, ('36). Tip O'Neill is a former Speaker of the House. There is a replica of his Washington DC office here in the library.
