The building is sited next to the Milton ponds. Originally there were seperate buildings, one which may have been a stable. These have been connected and upgraded. Earlier references name it as The Furnace Inn, it is shown on the ordnance survey map of 1890 as Furnace Inn. There is access to a medium sized car park, also parking is available opposite on the Forge Fields car park.

The name of the public house and the forge fields originate from the nearby Milton Forge an Ironworks which was closed in 1884.
