The desert landforms of the Sahara are shaped by wind or by occasional rains and include sand dunes and dune fields or sand seas (erg), stone plateaus (hamada), gravel plains (reg), dry valleys, and salt flats (shatt or chott).

The North Saharan steppe and woodlands covers 1,675,300 square kilometers (646,800 sq mi) in Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia, and Western Sahara.

In Morocco, Sahara expeditions with 4X4 are available from Marrakech and Casablanca. Our base was Erfoud from where we left early in the morning to get to the Erg Chebbi Dunes in time for sunrise. The Erg Chebbi is said to have some of the highest dunes in Morocco. A visit to the Sahara desert is an experience everyone should have at least once in their lifetime. It was a very peaceful journey but as our pictures can tell, we also had another type of experience, when our bus got stuck in the sand, coming back from the dunes. A good push from some good Samaritans got it on the right track in no time.

N.B. The price is for a 3 day/2 night trip from Marrakech to Erg Chebbi.
