Marker Saying: This Crossroad is the ancient Dumfries-Winchester Highway. Over it, William Fairfax accompanied George Washington, then a lad of sixteen, on his first visit to Lord Fairfax at Greenway Court. It was on this occassion that Washington assisted in surveying the fairfax grant.
This Virginia Historical marker sits along the actual Colonial Road which is also rich in American Civil War History. One of the oldest roads in America. It is located about two miles from the heart of Warrenton, Virginia in Historic Fauquier County. Close by is another two Historic Markers. Fredericksburg Campaign and Waymark McClellan's Farewell. You can visit all three markers at one trip!
