These sections of petrified logs are in front of the south entrance sign of the Petrified Forest National Park, just north US Highway 180, about 17.5 miles southeast of Holbrook, Arizona.

For those who decide not to pay the entrance fee to enter the park, these specimens of petrified logs will give them some small idea of what is to be observed within the park.

The two sections standing upright directly in front of the Park entrance sign serve an additional, entirely utilitarian purpose. They provide platforms on which you can place your camera in order to use the timed shutter release feature and include yourself in the picture.
