This station on the CPR Havelock subdivision was built in 1929. Passenger service was provided by Canadian Pacific using at first standard steam-powered coaches and then Budd-built RDC coaches.
Service extended west to Peterborough and on to Toronto's Union Station. Passengers could also travel east to Smiths Falls, Perth and Ottawa.
As passenger ridership dwindled, service was halted in 1965. The station was used as a freight office for a while, then left to the elements until 2004, when private interests refurbished the station and converted its interior into various restaurants and shops, including a brewpub.
Recently, talk has centred on the possibility of reopening the old line to passenger service once again. However, this is an expensive proposition as trackage has to be upgraded.
The CPR Staton has been designated a Heritage Railroad Station.
