The first international aviation meet held in Canada (and the largest one to date in North American) was held at what is now Pointe Claire, on land called Lakeside Heights which lies just north of
Terra Cotta. The event, which ran from June 24 to July 2, 1910 was attended by 15,000 spectators. Nine pilots, including two of the Wright brothers group, and ten airplanes were there to thrill and entertain the 15,000 spectators who attended. During the air show another first was achieved as
Count Jacques de Lesseps, flying his Blériot XI monoplane named Le Scarabée, was the first to fly over a Canadian City. On July 2, 1910, he took off from a runway at the air show and headed towards
Ile Sainte-Helene at a speed of 64 km/h. He made a turn above
Montreal city hall and then returned to his point of departure making the historic 58km flight in 43 minutes and 10 seconds.
