This eye-catching piece of artwork is located outside the Singapore Art Museum. The sculpture consists of a collection of coloured spheres, with a tangle of chrome above. There is an informative plaque at the base of the work, that tells us the following.

The piece "The Explorer" represents exploration, ambitiously, exploration extending from the Earth into the galaxy. Perhaps not surprisingly, with such a grand theme, the sculpture was dedicated at the millennium, with hopes for an optimistic future.

The plaque reads as follows:

The Explorer
Over the clouds
Beyond the planets
Our world
Travels and explores
The galaxy
