174 GWM USGS - Modoc County, CA - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

I located this benchmark after seeing it listed on a topography map as BM 4317. This benchmark was found in poor condition as it was uprooted from the ground and lying on its side and half buried. This benchmark is also on private property and there there are NO TRESPASSING signs next to a wire gate that was open on the dirt road leading to this station. I would not recommend seeking out this benchmark unless you get the property owner's permission but I wanted to waymark this benchmark for recovery sake and since it's not in the NGS database.

Directions to benchmark: I've included a topo map image showing the best way to travel to this benchmark. You need to access a dirt road leading south (left) off of Company Road 97. Then you'll need to take a right onto another dirt road at a crossing. This road will take you to the gate which passes through private property and to the station.
