Building 49 was one of the first buildings iconstructed on Fort Crook when it was completed in 1894. The building constructed to serve as an enlisted barracks/dormitory and continues to serve in that capacity today. When built the building was connected to adjacent building 40 with a center headquarters section. This central section was destroyed in a fire December 1946. The buildings were restored as separate buildings. The building is currently receiving considerable maintenance and is currently not in use.
This building is located on an active US Air Force Base. Access to the base is restricted and is easiest accessed by active duty, retired, or reserve service members or while accompanied by an individual in that status. Occasionally there are other times when the base has more open status during the year for various events.
