Mount Evans Scenic Byway is the highest paved road in North America (visit link) and (visit link) . There is no fee to drive the road, but if you park in an official lot, then you must pay the $10 entrance fee. The drive can be a bit of a 'white-knuckle' drive. There are several places to pull off to photograph as well as several trail heads for hiking. There is an alpine garden maintained by the Denver Botanical Gardens; ruins of the Crest House and the University of Denver Meyer-Womble Observatory. Prepare for cool weather and sudden storms. This road is also a very popular bicycle ride, so do please be careful passing cyclists. The wind can make a bicyclist very unstable.

There are many Waymarks along this route. The top of the road is very close to the summit of the mountain - so one can easily 'summit a Fourteener!' The summit benchmark is at N 39° 35.317, W 105° 38.567.

A time lapse of the drive may be found at (visit link) .

NOTE: Trail Ridge Road, which goes through Rocky Mountain National Park, is the highest continuous paved road in the USA (visit link) .
