"The building it self was constructed in 1867 as an artillery arsenal, but was already in 1877 to be converted into an Artillery Museum. Since 1932 the Armémuseum in Stockholm represents the whole Swedish Army." (visit link)

"The museum’s main display presents an overview of Swedish history from Viking times to the present day, and focuses on the reality of war, not least now it affects the civilian population.
By way of introduction visitors start in a room for reflection. Why has war always been part of the history of Man? The purpose of the room is to invite the visitor to reflect on the grim reality behind grand uniforms and shining weapons. The exhibition rooms then follow in chronological order.

The exhibition consists of a combination of displays of authentic artefacts, realistic scenes portraying true to life figures and painstakingly created replicas of original items. A small army from the days of the Thirty Years War is portrayed in a display of 5800 metal soldiers, formed up ready for battle. A life-size Caroline cavalry attacks at full gallop with swords drawn, and a gun from the time of the 1808-1809 Finland War is prepared for firing. In a tent at Hultsfred heath a conscript soldier is taking a nap, and in his barrack room, showing a bunk space from the 1960s, a private soldier has fallen asleep while reading his magazine.

The ground floor displays the history of the artillery, and also has a space for temporary exhibitions, the reception and shop. “Borggården”, the museum’s restaurant and café is situated at the eastern end of the building on the ground floor.

Peace Soldiers - an exhibition of Swedish participation in UN missions

Approximately 100 000 Swedish men and women have left the peaceful homeland to serve the UN in promoteing peace in foreign trouble spots. What was it like to be drawn into outright conflict in the Congo civil war 1961? How was it to monitor the ceasefire in Cyprus 1987? What helped the civilian population in Kosovo in 2004?"
