First elected mayor of the City of Winnipeg in October, 1956. Stephen Juba served continually until his retirement in November 1977. During this period of public service, Stevben Juba was a strong advocate of major downtown park development and was instrumental in encouraging the development of a linear riverbank park. This park is dedicated to Stephen Juba in recognition of his leadership in making this park a reality and of his many lasting contributions and untiring effort to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Winnipeg.
