Udon Thani is one of the larger cities in the Kingdom of Thailand, lying not too far from the border with Laos. Planes, buses, automobiles, and trains link this city to the wider world.

The municipal train station is located on the eastern side of the city. Its design uses the fluted, Ionic columns of ancient Greece, an interesting innovation. Passing through these architectural curiosities, one reaches the ticket counter, and then through to the track. Along the tracks are seats, signs, food and drink for sale, and people, ready to travel elsewhere in the northern Kingdom, and even onto Laos. Entry is free and unrestricted.
