EN: "The Branca-Baccalà Palace located in Via Pioda 5 is "the most beautiful example of luxurious baroque building of the region of Upper Lago Maggiore". After many demolitions and the recent external renovations (Architect Livio Vacchini), it now looks like an impressive monumental "wreck" of what was an "autosufficient residential centre" (Gilardoni), composed by main building, service buildings, courtyards, stables and gardens extended to the whole east part of the town. A memento of the magnificence of the Palace is the well situated in the square opposite the building. The complex building story of the Branca-Baccalà Palace, transformed and enlarged many times, took place in the decades around year 1700. The great facade open towards the lake (balcony on the first floor; painting of the Annunciation, 1724/25, Antonio Baldassare Orelli style; central loggia with the inscription: Branca 1747; allegorical drawings in greenish and grey monochrome shades between the big brackets of the mezzanine floor under the eaves), reveals a representative architecture of great artistic value. The inside of the Palace is quite traditional with dome architecture, painted and wooden ceilings decorated with plants and fruit." ( (

Since April 2002 the building is home to the "Museo Ruggero Leoncavallo", a museum about the famous Italian composer who lived in Brissago for many years.
IT: "Dopo varie demolizioni e il recente restauro esterno (arch. Livio Vacchini) il Palazzo Branca-Baccalà (Via Pioda 5), questo "più bell'esempio di barocco signorile della regione dell'Alto Lago Maggiore" si presenta come un impressionante "relitto" monumentale di quello che poteva essere considerato quasi "un centro residenziale autosufficiente" (Gilardoni), costituito da palazzo padronale, edifici di servizio, corti, annessi stalle e giardini estesi a tutto il quartiere orientale del Borgo. Rimane un ricordo di tale magnificenza nella piazza con il pozzo antistante il palazzo. La complessa vicenda edilizia di palazzo Branca più volte trasformato e ampliato, si situa nei decenni attorno al 1700. Il grandioso prospetto aperto verso il lago (balcone davanti al I. piano; dipinto dell'Annunciazione, 1724/25, maniera di Antonio Baldassare Orelli; loggia centrale, iscrizione: Branca 1747; figure allegoriche in toni monocromi verdognolo e grigio fra i mensoloni del mezzanino sotto la gronda), rilevano uno spiccato senso per un architettura rappresentativa di grande pregio artistico. All'interno, piuttosto tradizionale, si sono mantenuti alcuni soffitti dipinti su carta e una magistrale architettura illusionistica a cupola con piante, frutti e motivi decorativi su un soffitto ligneo." Dall'aprile 2002 l'edificio è sede del "Museo Ruggero Leoncavallo", un museo sul celebre compositore italiano che ha vissuto in Brissago per molti anni.
