This grave marker is in the churchyard cemetery at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in the Farrington district of northern Chatham County.

We presume that the hammer indicates that Mr. Thomas was a carpenter, or at the least enjoyed carpentry. On the back of his stone is a horse barn with horses. He either loved horses and/or owned a horse farm.
