Ðang Thai Mai (1902-1984) was a Vietnamese scholar, supporter of resistance to French rule, and the Vietnamese Minister of Education (1946). He is noted as a literary critic, and for continued involvement in Vietnamese cultural life.

The bust is located on the grounds of the Hanoi National University of Education, in a landscaped area. The life-sized bust is on a plinth, with a biographical inscription in Vietnamese. The professor looks fairly distinguished and wears a suit.
