The CF-100 was in service for over 30 years in Canada. It was a twin engine interceptor and was one of the greatest Canadian success. It was a jet that was the first fighter jet produced entirely in Canada from design stage up to the completed product. It was an all weather interceptor designed for Canada's climate.

It was the first straight winged combat aircraft to achieve Mach 1.

This jet is found among several memorials, aircraft, a wall or remembrance and a museum dedicated to the service men and women who served in the Second World War in southern Alberta. The Nanton Air Museum has its roots in the preservation of Avro 683 Lancaster FM159.

Nanton was the heart of the air training that took place for the British Commonwealth Air Training program during the war. Nearby service flying schools to train fighter and multi-engine pilots included Vulcan, Claresholm, Fort Macleod, Medicine Hat and Calgary.

The museum houses numerous artifacts and a full day can be spent looking at the displays. Outside the building is flanked by two aircraft on pedestals. The are additional monuments including a wall that lists the service men and women of Bomber Command that lost their lives in the war.
