"Das Goethedenkmal ehrt den deutschen Dichter J. W. von Goethe (1749-1832). Es gilt als eine Sehenswürdigkeit der Stadt.

Die Statue steht auf einem Marmorsockel und ist aus Bronce ca. 2,5 Meter groß.


Das Denkmal befindet sich auf dem Naschmarkt vor der Alten Börse.

Das 2,65 m hohe Bronzestandbild zeigt Goethe als Studenten. Es wurde vom Leipziger Bildhauer C. Seffner (1861-1932) entworfen und bei Noack & Brückner im Jahr 1902 gegossen. Der 2,50 m hohe Sockel aus rotem Meißner Granit wurde nach einem Entwurf des Architekten Max Bischoff von der Fa. Prößdorf ausgeführt.

Eine ovale Tafel an der Vorderseite des Sockels (Südseite; zur Grimmaischen Straße) enthält folgende Inschrift:

Das Goethedenkmal wurde am 28.06.1903 enthüllt. Als Beitrag zur Finanzierung der Kosten des Denkmals in Höhe von 44.000 Goldmark wurden im Jahr 1900 je 10.000 Goldmark aus den Nachlässen der Leipziger Kaufleute F. D. Grassi (1801-1880) und F. Rhode (1802-1872) entnommen." - Quelle: (visit link)

"This monument honors the German poet Goethe, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832). It is considered a landmark of the city.
The statue stands on a marble base and is about 2.5 meters tall in bronze.
The monument is located on the front of the Old Market Naschmarkt.

The 2.65m-tall bronze statue shows Goethe as a student. It was from Leipzig sculptor Seffner C (1861-1932) designed and cast by Noack & Brückner in 1902. The 2.50 m high pedestal of red granite Meissner was executed after a design by architect Max Bischoff Prößdorf by the company.

An oval plaque on the front of the base (south side, to Grimmaische Street) contains the following inscription:

The Goethe monument was unveiled on 06.28.1903.
