Simferopol is a transportation hub, servir all Crimea, distributing travelers coming from all over Ukraine and even Russia to their final destinations in the peninsula.
Part of the hub is the train station, with trains rolling out to all the main cities in this large country (the second larger in Europe, after Russia).
I did took a train to Odessa, after a bus ride from Sevastopol. It was a night train, and a great experience. 12 hours to negotiate 500 km.
