The Pinery Provincial Park is located 8 km south of Grand Bend on Highway 21. It's natural features are staggering - 6,330 acres in size; over 757 plant, 325 bird and 60 butterfly species to name just a few groups; a globally rare Oak Savanna ecosystem; freshwater coastal dunes; habitat for endangered species; and the largest protected forest in southwestern Ontario.
The Visitor Centre is open weekends 10 am - 5 pm and weekdays
1 pm – 4 pm, and 10 am – 5 pm daily beginning June 30.

Park Type: Day use area and overnight areas

Activities:
The Pinery has day use picnic areas, day use beaches for swimming, trails, and 3 different camping areas. They have 1000 campsites along with 12 furnished Yurt campsites that can be used year round. They have three camping areas - Dunes, Riverside and Burley. Day use fee around $10, camping fees up to $45. The Old Ausable Channel flows through the park where you can canoe, Kayak or fish. They also have a bike trail and ski trails in the winter. Rentals are available for canoes, Kayaks and bikes.


Background:
The forest is an Oak Savanna ecosystem with sand dunes up to 100 feet high. It has lookouts over the forest canopy, towards Lake Huron and to the many farm fields in a distance.
