A image of the monument how it look in 1888, and now, its looks more than a touch different. The enclosure has gone, along with the stairs, and has been replaced by a high hedgerow.

There is a cost to enter the park, but it is large and you are free to roam.

The choragic monument of Lysicrates was designed by William Coal of
Chester in 1820 following his tour of Europe. Wilbraham Egerton commisioned the work to commemorate his travels. The inspitration derives from the ancient Athens celebrating Lysicrates, the famious leader of the Greek Chorus.

This piece of statuary was added to the gardens to give a note of finality to te garden tour and terminate the vista looking down the length of the broad walk.

The monument was a favourite picnicking site for the Egerton family with wonderful views of the parkland.
Year photo was taken: 1888
