Crampton Tower was a water tower built in 1859 in Broadstairs, Kent, by renowned Victorian engineer, Thomas Russell Crampton (wiki link) using flint cobble. In England, flint was a common building material due to its ready availability and was used extensively in England from the Roman period onwards.

The Crampton Tower supplied private customers of Crampton's 'Broadstairs Water Company' with water until 1912, when a new supply was needed due in part to the increased size of the town and a major contamination issue due to sea sand having been used in the cement of the accompanying covered reservoir, also of flint cobble construction.

Today, the Crampton Tower Museum houses a museum to commemorate the many other achievements of Thomas Russell Crampton, and is custodian to many of his artefacts. The Museum website can be viewed here.
