The ceramics industry of Lampang province (~600kms north of Bangkok) is an important, unique, and distinctive aspect of the local economy. There are over 200 small to medium sized ceramic factories in the province, producing a wide variety of goods from nicknacks to useful items. Thus, it is not surprising that this industry is commemorated by a piece of abstract sculpture in the town square, before the town hall.
This sculpture has a plaque, which describes in some detail the nature and origin of the piece, however, the text is both faded, and written in a difficult to read font (both Thai and English), thus it is not as useful as it could be. From the plaque it is possible to discern the title of the artwork: "The Movement". It is rather difficult to describe, someone with no artistic appreciate would most likely state that it resembles a broken cup. Maybe 1.5m tall, mostly brown in colour, and sitting in a fountain. Easy to spot, lots of other waymarks in the vicinity.
