Mr. Tobits had lived in Higganum for 20 years. He was a graduate of Middletown High School and Porter and Chester Institute, Wethersfield. He had been attending Central Connecticut State University. Mr. Tobits was employed by Vinal Regional Technical School as a drafting instructor. He was named Teacher of the Year at the school for the 1995-1996 school year. He was president of the Village Park Society of Haddam and received a special award for his beautification efforts from the Village Park Society of Haddam, the town of Haddam and the state of Connecticut.
