Gable Cemetery is located between Meeker and Prague. From the intersection of Highways 62 and 18, travel east 5 miles on Highway 62, then south on CR3480 2 miles. The cemetery sits on the southeast corner of CR1060 and CR3480.

This cemetery was laid out in 1893 and the first burial was a young child, Danny Garrett (1891-1893). Two acres of land were donated by William H. Gable. Later the community added land for a total of 3.3 acres. In the northwest corner of the cemetery is a charming native stone chapel constructed in 1938. It was our pleasure to find members of the cemetery association at the chapel at the time of our visit. We had a nice visit and found out that the chapel is still in use for church services, meetings, funerals and an annual Memorial Day picnic which draws about 75 people.

The cemetery is shaded by many huge oak trees. A one-room school, now gone, once stood south of the present day chapel. It was used not only for school, but also for church, and Friday night meetings.

There are approximately 310 burials at this location. You must visit this website to read a full history of this cemetery and those who love and care for it. (visit link)
