Sunnyside Cemetery is also known as Pickett Cemetery. Its history began in the late 1800s. The land was given by George C. Pickett. Mr. Pickett's neighbor, Charles E. Walls' father died, but the Walls property was too rocky for the burial. Mr. Pickett offered to have Mr. Walls' father buried across the street on his property, which established this cemetery. The date is unknown, as there are numerous undated markers here. The oldest marked grave is from 1896. In the early 1900s, there was a desire to rename the cemetery. The students at Old Thompson School wrote names on paper and a drawing was held. The name Sunnyside was chosen.
From the intersection of Highways 18 and 62 in Meeker, drive two miles north to CR1020, then east 1.5 miles. The cemetery is on the north side of the road.
This is a small, square area with a chain link entrance gate, and a gravel drive which forms a loop down the east and north sides, returning through the middle of the land. There are 124 burials here, with the latest in 2010.
Several unusual markers were noted, which consisted of bronze plaques attached to large natural stones in their original location, testifying to the early story about the rocky ground.
