The face of this sun appears to have been lifted from a 19th century print, whilst the rays seem to be in a more recent style. The Rising Sun appears on many coats of arms including Edward III and Richard III.

This one has the French motto 'Dieu et mon droit' or 'God and my right' on the sign below the sun. This is the motto of the monarch.
