Sie liegen am Rand des Ortes Krimml (Salzburg), im Nationalpark Hohe Tauern nahe der Grenze zu Italien. Gebildet werden sie durch die Krimmler Ache, die am Ende des hoch gelegenen Krimmler Achentals in drei Fallstufen hinunterstürzt.
