Murdo was one of a very few stop overs during the very early pioneer days along US Highway No. 16 which ran from Detroit, MI to Worland, WY (1,432 miles). The region was mostly open-range cattle country with barbed wire fences only around garden plots. The marker also describes in some detail how to read cattle brands.
