United States consulate, Florence, Italy - Diplomatic Missions on Waymarking.com

The American consulate in Florence is on the north bank of the Arno river, on a street named, appropriately enough, for Amerigo Vespucci, the Italian explorer for whom "America" is named. Also appropriately, just to the east of the consulate there is a statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi, the Italian revolutionary, who spent some time in exile in the U.S. (Staten Island, to be exact).

The streets are blocked off for a couple of blocks around the consulate, and there is a constant, if discreet, Italian police or military presence.
