Lieu de passage des Amérindiens vers leurs lieux de chasse et pêche. Algonquins, Iroquois et autres sillonnaient les rivières tributaires de l'Outaouais. Ils avaient l'habitude de nommer les endroits familiers de leur parcours. Nominingue est-il de langue iroquoise ou algonquine ? En iroquois, Nominingue signifie "Peinture rouge" faisant référence à une terre rouge avec laquelle ils se tatouaient. Et Nominingue en algonquin signifie "Le pays où l'on revient".
Cette municipalité est située dans la MRC Antoine-Labelle et la région administrative des Laurentides. On y retrouve environ 2 500 habitants permanents et plus de 3000 résidants saisonniers.

Nominingue is above all a lake! On the native peoples route to their hunting and fishing territories. Algonquins, Iroquois and others travelled the tributaries of the Outaouais. It was their custom to name locations they visited on their travels. Does "Nominingue" have its origins in the Iroquois or the Algonquin languages? Who could tell? Nominingue means in Iroquois: "red paint". For the Algonquin "Onamani Sakaigan" would be translated as "Vermilion Lake" in reference to the red soil with which some coloured their bodies. But Nominingue is an Algonquin word meaning: "A land to which one must return"...
Nominingue has a population of about 2500 residents and 3000 summer residents.
