What is the capacity of the facility?: permit authorites 135 million gallons per day (mgd) 660 mgd during storm events

Describe the biological treatment technology used.:
According to this website document https://www.monroecounty.gov/File/DES/Wastewater%20-%20Collection%20and%20Treatment%20by%20Monroe%20County-Operated%20Facilites.pdf the biological process (the secondary treatment after eliminating grit and scum) indicate the use of aerobic bacteria, in a process like what occurs naturally. "This biodegration of pollutants is allowed to take place in a location where plenty of air can be supplied to the microorganisms. This aerobic biological process promotes the formation of less offensive oxidized products." VanLare uses "a suspended growth biological treatment process known as the activated sludge system. This type consists of two parts - aeration tanks and a settling tanks/clarifiers. The aeration tank contains a "sludge" which is what could be best described as a mixed microbial culture, (mixed liquor) containing mostly bacteria, as well as protozoa, fungi, algea etc. This sludge is constantly mixed and aerated by large mechanical aerators (propellers) on the surface of the tanks." "In sewers, prevention of anaerobic conditions and sulfide formations is an important consideration in prevention of odors. If the wastewater is warm and the sewer flow is not rapid enough to aerate the water and scour the pipes, addition of chemicals such as nitrate, chlorine, hydrogen peroxide or iron compounds can be helpful." In layman's terms, anyone who is downwind of the plant at Durand Eastman Park knows roughly where is is, even though it isn't visible to the public!

How are biosolids (sludge) managed?: Trucked to the Riga Landfill, a Monroe County operated facility

What technology is used for disinfection prior to dicharge of treated water?: phosphorus removed through chemical precipitation with the iron compound ferrous chloride; disinfection by sodium hypoclorite

Who is the owner/operator fo the facility?: Monroe County Water Authority

How is the facility governed?: Monroe County Pure Waters Authority

What is the website of the WWTP?: [Web Link]

Please post at least 2 original photographs of the site. We would much rather see photos of the plant itself as opposed to the front office, but we also understand that security and site layout may limit your opportunities.
