Die Distanzsäule wurde 1722 auf dem Marktplatz aufgestellt. Durch die Stadt führte damals der Postkurs von Leipzig über Gera und Weida nach Schleiz und Hof. Die Säule wurde 1883 und 1922 restauriert. Unmittelbar vor Ende des II. Weltkrieges wurde die Säule zerstört. Danach wurde eine Kopie erstellt.
Wie fast alle Distanzsäulen besteht sie aus sieben Teilen. Sockel, Postament und Postamentbekrönung bilden den Unterbau. Der Oberbau besteht aus Zwischenplatte, Schaft, Wappenstück und Spitze.

The distance column was erected in 1722 on the marketplace. Through the city at that time led the postal route from Leipzig and Gera Weida to Schleiz and yard. The column was restored in 1883 and 1922. Just before the end of World War II, the column was destroyed. Thereafter, a copy was created.
Like almost all the distance columns, it consists of seven parts. Base, pedestal and Postamentbekrönung form the foundation. The superstructure consists of intermediate plate, shaft, arms and head piece.
