In North Kingstown, on Advent Street off Ten Rod Road is a white church structure.
The structure is visible from Ten Rod Road, to the north, and is near an old mill that now has antique shops. The building appears to be abandoned now. There are no signs, nor other signs of ANY activity. The outside looks weathered and neglected, but still seems intact. All windows are boarded up.
A pdf of an article from the local library of North Kingstown has an extensive account of this building. In 1883, the church was built to accommodate the growing congregation of the Lafayette Advent Church, which was bursting out of the Hornbeam Chapel on Ten Rod Road. The footprint is 40 by 76 feet. The bell tower spire rises 74 feet. The architect is not known, but it may have been Tefft, who had designed St. Paul's Church in the North Kingstown village of Wickford.
In the early 1980s, the church membership had dwindled to the point where it had to move back to the Hornbeam Church. It is not clear how active the congregation is, today. The congregation's web site was not found. Included below is a link to a local directory that has a page for the church general information. The article stated that it had been used by another church group for awhile, then it was used for storage for a furniture company. The article advocated putting funds into fully restoring the structure, possible to use it for a community center.
