This Penny farthing bicycle was created by local artist Robert Longley at his family run business Cranbrook Iron. It was originally sited on the nearby Wilsley Pound roundabout on the A229/ A262 as part of the celebrations surrounding the Tour de France cycle race that passed through Sissinghurst on 8th July 2007. Due to technocrats and insurance premiums, Kent County Council declined to allow it to remain on the roundabout, so the village of Sissinghurst gained a new art work. Now sitting proudly on the side of the A262 that runs through the village, it is a photo opportunity taken by many passers by.
