The historic district originally consisted of 10 building with 9 remaining (one was demolished and replaced with a pocket park). The buildings styles are mostly what is described as Plains Commercial style.

The town of Laverne was established late in 1912 when the railroad built a depot in the town. Within one year 6 of buildings in the district were built establishing the business core of the community. The remaining building were built before the end of 1918. The buildings have been fairly well maintained.
