The mill race scoop. An iron scoop like this one was used to dig the entire mill race. The ground was first loosened with a plow. The scoop was then dragged by horse and filled with earth. When the scoop was full, the handles were pushed down to raise the forward edge, and the scoop dragged to the dumping place. At the dumping place, the handles were raised and the scoop turned over. The ground was dumped along the sides of the race to strengthen the banks. The mill race plays a very important part in the operation of the mill by supplying water to run the wheel. This piece of history stand along a trail in Little Buffalo State Park.
