Lampang is one of the many provincial capitals of central and northern Thailand. A fortunate city, it is on the Bangkok to Chiang Mai (the largest city of north Thailand), rail line. The station for this fine city lies to the south of the municipality, facing out into an open area, which has a stationary train as its centre piece.

The station itself is of a standard design. A large entrance way, through which one finds ticket counters, past this, out onto the track, is a large waiting area, with seats and several small shops selling food, drink, and travel accessories.

note: The signs here do say 'Nakhon Lampang'. The reason for this, 'nakhon' is the Thai word for city. Thus, the "City of Lampang".
