The Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Encarnação is a 15th century Baroque temple in the Village of Monchique, Algarve.
Although enriched in later times, the temple retains much of its original elements, in particular the portals.
The interior has three naves split by arches built on pillars, whose chapiters are decorated with horizontal bands of plaited rods.
The Bell tower has a clock mechanism mounted on the top above the bells. Each of the sides of the tower has a dial mounted so that the clock could be seen from the whole village.
The clock was made by Cousinha from Almada (south bank of the Tagus near Lisbon), a very well known clock maker in Portugal (their clocks are in several churches and other public buildings).
There,s no information about the date the clock was mounted.
