The Suppression Division consists of three shifts, each working 24 hours and having 48 hours off. Each shift has two captains, four engineers and nine firefighters. All of our firefighters are certified by the State of Florida, and are EMTs or paramedics as well.
2010 has been an arduous year for the North Fort Myers Fire District. In the past three years, our budget has been reduced by 39%. We have reduced our firefighting staff by twelve firefighters. Unfortunately, with a reduced firefighting staff, we closed our oldest station (Station 1) at 42 Willis Road. The area served by Station 1 had overlapping coverage from Stations 2 and 3. A very small area will be impacted by longer response times, but we felt it better to be able to send a unit that would take a little bit longer to respond than no unit at all.
