Mitten in der Leipziger Tieflandsbucht, östlich der weißen Elster befindet sich die Stadt Zwenkau. Bis zur Hälfte des letzten Jahrhunderts war die Stadt von umfangreichen Waldungen umgeben und somit auch ein beliebtes Ausflugziel der nahen Großstadt Leipzig. Seit 1921 fielen die Waldgebiete und Ortschaften dem Braunkohletagebau zum Opfer.

Erhalten blieb um Zwenkau lediglich ein Teil des Elsterauwalds, das “Eichholz”. Durch die Sanierung und Aufforstung ensteht rund um Zwenkau, vor den Toren von Leipzig das Erholungsgebiet “Neuseenland”.

Unser Gasthaus stand 1896 auf der sächsisch-thüringischen Industrie- und Gewerbeausstellung in Leipzig, als Kaffeehaus “Zum Rothenburger Erker”. Danach erwarb es die Zwenkauer Schützengesellschaft und versetzte es nach Zwenkau. 1897 wurde das Haus als Ballsaal jener Gesellschaft eingeweiht. Im gleichen Jahr bekam es aus Kostengründen eine Kopie des Rothenburger-Erkers gesetzt. Unklar ist jedoch wo der Originalerker in Leipzig verblieb. Am 10.5.1898 wurde es festlich als Vereinshaus der Schützen eingeweiht und bis 1940 rege genutzt. Nach dem Krieg wurde das Schützenhaus “Zum Rothenburger Erker” nicht an den Verein zurück übertragen. Nach 1993 hat eine Eigentümer- gemeinschaft das gesamte Gebäude saniert und eine Tennishalle angefügt. 1996 eröffnet wurde das historiusche Gasthaus ab 1997 10 Jahre von Familie Saupe betrieben. Aus Altersgründen haben sie sich am 30.07.2007 aus dem Schützenhaus zurückgezogen . Seit August 2007 betreibt Familie Reinhardt das Schützenhaus liebevoll.

Opened in 1996, the inn from 1997 historiusche 10 years was run by family Saupe. For reasons of age, they have retired on 30.07.2007 from the clubhouse. Since August 2007 the Reinhardt family clubhouse operates lovingly.
