Outside the entrance to the Phitsanulok City train station is a courtyard, that is flanked by two, dated, long buildings. One is a hotel, the other houses a variety of shops.

This building is the southerly of the two, the hotel, specifically, the 'Phitsanulok Hotel' (spelt 'Pisanuloke'). This title is given in Thai, Chinese and English characters. This building carries the dedicatory year of 2505 in the Buddhist calendar. Interestingly, this date is given in Hindu numerals, not the curvaceous Thai digits, as are usually used (at least in my experience) for such purposes. This date corresponds to 1962 of the Common Era.

When this building first saw the light of day Thailand, and Phitsanulok, were entirely different places. Most likely at that time this hotel, and its compatriot structure across the way, were two of the more important buildings in the town. Now, however, both look a little faded. Time and tide.
Year of construction: 2505
