Ti Top Island got its name from Ghermann Titov, a Soviet cosmonaut who visited this tiny island in 1962 accompanied by President Ho Chi Minh. To perpetuate the remembrance of their visit, Ho Chi Minh named the place Ti Top Island.
Located about 8 km southeast from Bai Chay Wharf, Ti Top Island displays a beach shaped like a crescent moon.
The island’s first attraction is probably the pagoda-styled lookout gazebo at its summit. After climbing the 427 stone steps winding up the mountain, one is treated to the most incredible 360 degree view of Halong Bay. For those who get tired before reaching the summit there is a spacious lookout point half way up as well.
