Uzhgorod Central Rail Terminal

The original Ungvar (Uzhgorod) Railway Station was built in the early 19th century when the city was called Ungvar and part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. Uzhgorod became a part of the Soviet Union in 1945. The Soviets planned on renovating the railway station in the 1970s in preparation for the 1980 Moscow Olympics. But the project was never realized. It was not until after Ukrainian Independence that the renovation was commenced in 2002 and completed in 2004.
