From the city's website: " A inauguração oficial ocorreu em 7 de setembro de 1886, com a presença do Rev.mo. D. Lino Deodate Rodrigues de Carvalho, então bispo desta diocese, e com assistência dos Revmo. padres Antônio Pires do Prado, Bento Claro, Porfírio de Souza Martins, cônegos Ezechias Galião da Fontoura e Raymundo Marculino de Cruz Cintra. A torre que hoje se ergue em seu frontal teve iniciada sua construção por volta de 1904, iniciativa do Rev.mo padre Francisco Felippo. Em seu estilo original de construção ela permaneceu até por volta de 1954, quando teve início uma reforma geral, financiada pelos paroquianos. Quando à parte externa, o templo teve alteradas nessa reforma, entre outras coisas, as janelas laterais (anteriormente em madeira), as duas portas laterais da frente do prédio, que não existem mais, e a torre que teve retirada a diviSão de seu primeiro arco. Quanto à parte interna da Igreja Matriz, foi retratada em esplendor, precisamente no teto da Igreja, por meio das pinturas, a vida do Patrono da cidade.
