Gelligaer is an ancient community with a Roman past that was hidden until Edwardian archaeologists excavated Gaer Fawr and Gaer Fach and confirmed that there was a Roman Fort hidden beneath the grass.

A print of the Gelligaer Roman Fort is printed on a sheet of glass and mounted in front of the field that hides the fort, so you can imagine what the fort looked like in the past.
Almost 2000 years after the Romans and Silure battled across these fields and hills, Gelligaer is again telling the story of the Romans in the Valleys of south Wales. Why not come and visit this village, which has a history that stretches back to pre history, and a heritage waiting for you to explore.
